Born in San Jose, Costa Rica, Erick Alonso discovered his passion for the performing arts at a very young age, but he grew up in an environment that did not nurture his calling. His passion for exploration and growth took him to Asia where he lived for ten years and had a successful career in digital marketing. He recently took a big risk to pivot his career and moved back to the Western world to honor his artistic calling, training at the prestigious Actors Studio Drama School.
He is now settled in NYC where he is a permanent resident and is pursuing a new career in the performing arts. Choosing again the road less travelled, open to what this adventure has to offer!
In his words
Erick learned how to speak English by watching The Oprah Winfrey Show, when at age 12 he was flipping channels and the energy coming out of the screen kept him watching. He often jokes and says “Oprah Winfrey raised me”, and in many ways she truly did.
The Work
I am truly interested in the exploration of the unconscious and how it is used in the performing arts. I am particularly attracted to how this technique was used by Elizabeth Kemp and Sandra Seacat through dream work, and have been lucky enough to be close to people that worked with them. I had the opportunity to ask fellow alumni Bradley Cooper how he uses this technique in his work. I continue to explore this in my work.
